The process of migrating to the US is a time consuming and lengthy procedure. More over it is a costly affair too. For the purpose of making this procedure easy, the US government has introduced the free green card lottery scheme.

Under the free green card lottery scheme, the US government gives out 55,000 green cards to the inhabitants of those countries which show very low rates of migration to the US. The eligibility for this is that you must be the native of a country given in the list. The countries which have sent more than 50000 people in the past five years are considered ineligible.

Suppose you are the citizen of an eligible country but born in ineligible country you may not qualify. In case you reside in an ineligible country but have your native from an eligible one, then you can show your place of birth. You can also show your spouse’s or parents place of birth.

Other requirements include education for at least 12 years or high school or any other equivalent or have work experience of two years for the past five years in a field that requires at least two years of professional training.
