What is the first step in green card forms for my relatives?

Primarily you may have to file a petition I-130 to USCIS to bring in your alien relative. Once the USCIS approves your petition to being in your spouse for example you may need to file in the respective forms for each relative.

For whom can I file a petition under I-130 if I am a U.S. Citizen?

If you are a U.S. citizen you can file I-130 petition for your children who may be foreign citizens, parents, brothers or sisters, spouse, fiancé or fiancée.

What is the next step once I-130 is approved?

After I-130 is approved you need to file K3 for your spouse and K4 has to be processed for the children of your spouse if you intend to bring them in.

What if my spouse already holds a temporary visa in the U.S?

You should request (Adjustment of status) AOS for permanent residence. Your spouse or children with temporary visa can file AOS only if your I-130 petition is sanctioned, not before that. Both K3 and K4 holders should process AOS separately after having I-130 approved!

I am a K3 nonimmigrant should I get AOS towards green card processing?

Yes. AOS is officially designated as I-485 form. If you have a K3 nonimmigrant visa already and you have your I-130 petition approved; you have to file I-485 for Green Card Status.

I-130 petition is approved I do not have a nonimmigrant visa, how do I get my green card?

The USCIS sends the approval to the National Visa Center (NVC) The NVC will create a case record and a case number. The NVC will send a visa number to the appropriate U.S. consulate where your case will be dealt with further formalities.
