Green Card Winners

Green card winners go through a hub of excitement once they are given their green cards. Having got the green card by the green card lottery program, by employment, by marriage, by special ability or any other route is definitely a big event of happiness. With US being a land of scientific opportunity and a land of gainful employment green card is essentially the dream of many.

Green card winners have their own duties as responsible permanent immigrants. Every green card holder is supposed to apply for a valid travel document to travel in and out of the United States.

Having been selected and issued with a permanent resident status, green card winners are likely to have a series of waves relating to:

  1. What are the exact rights of green card holders?
  2. As a permanent resident, has one any restriction to take up a new job?
  3. They might have apprehensions about the green card status of their children who are yet to be born.
  4. Doubts about switching over to a better employment.
  5. Doubts about switching to live in a better location.
  6. About how long they can travel to their home country without losing their green card status.
  7. Which travel document to use, a US passport or the passport from their country of origin, and many more doubts and queries.

All green card winners are requested to keep all their documents safe. Copies of birth certificates, educational certificates, employment certificates, passport details, citizenship proof of their country of origin, medical insurance documents and above all they are supposed to have their green card safe.

Though change of employment and change of address is approved for all green card winners, such changes should be reported to the USCIS and should be documented accordingly.

If green card winners are spouses or children who are experiencing domestic abuse like being battered they are to report to National Domestic Violence by contacting the toll free number 1-800-799-7233. The domestically abused victim is allowed to petition for a green card status by self by canceling the sponsorship of the sponsoring spouse. There are several unreported abuses by green card spouses especially women who fear losing green card status. Being green card winners of a responsible government, steps are formulated for safety of permanent residents!

Domestic abuse help is offered by a set of legal attorneys who offer the service free of charge if the complaint is true! So, if any of the green card winners are domestically abused they are free to approach for help without having fear of financial rope to go any further.
